Fancy checking out a library book with your mobile phone? The National Library Board (NLB) Singapore has launched a new smartphone app, NLB Mobile, that lets library members borrow items at public libraries using their smartphones.

The app makes innovative use of the smartphone camera to scan NLB bar codes and check due dates or the availability of titles. NLB Mobile also boasts features such as book and event recommendations based on users’ past loans and physical location. Parents can store their children’s library accounts on the app and borrow books for the whole family.
